Not only does this mean you will need to have a standard cleaner, but you will also need to know how to use it. It could take you 10 to 15 minutes to properly clean each wheel.

Needed Tools to clean

  1. A bowl
  2. A mug
  3. Water
  4. Tooth Brash / Soft cloth (brash will be better)
  5. Detergent
  6. Mini Spray Machine (Optional)

This may seem daunting at first, but if you do it regularly, it will get easier. A toothbrush is gentler than a wet sponge. But be sure to get in the parts that do not show. Some wheel hubs will rub along the wheels on a short board, so you should clean them here before applying grease.
Use either a circular or a straight toothbrush to get into the grooves of the wheel. Be sure to clean the back spoke, the bottom of the wheel, and grooves and grinds in the sides. But why? It’s important to be able to see where you’re going and know that you’re not slowing down due to dirt on your wheel. Wheel cleaning isn’t only good for safety reasons, but can also increase your dirt bike’s performance.

Dirty tires decrease traction and speed, which means that less power is transferred from the engine chain to the wheels. When cleaning your dirt bike, it’s important not to ingest any of the chemicals or oil found in these products, so wear rubber gloves and follow best practices.

You may need the same tools that you see above we use for longboard cleaning.

  1. A bowl
  2. A mug
  3. Water
  4. Tooth Brash / Soft cloth (brash will be better)
  5. Detergent
  6. Mini Spray Machine (Optional)

You may have one somewhere in your home or garage, and by looking it up you may even follow our step by step guide to get you going. When you use a spray machine to clean a bike wheel, it can really speed up the process. Take your bowl and include enough water in it. Now add some detergent, washing powder or liquid and mix as well then spray around the frame of your wheel.

  • Now use a toothbrush to rub around the wheels of the bike. Make sure that there is no hard or sticky dirt in the gaps between the tire and the ring.
  • Rotate the wheel by hand as needed so that you can use the brush on the entire wheel and leave no part behind.
  • Once well rubbed, clean the entire wheel of the bike thoroughly with detergent water using a mug or spray machine.

If you have a mini spray machine that can increase your water force you can use it to remove hard dirt like adhesive soil from the dirt bike wheel Tire and rings. You can clean the bottom side easily using a spray machine.


Always remember to clean those wheels before you continue to play! Before you skateboard or snowboard, the last thing you want is for those little spinney wheels to get dirty or out of control.
